Wall Layers.

Using the acetate and tracing paper pieces i combined them with the colour print outs directly on the wall...here are the photos...

I <3 The Photocopier.

I experimented with some of the pieces that me, mitch and amy did in five minute, where we were trying to cover up eachothers work/mistakes, and then at the end 'revealed' the work underneath. Some of these combine elements of everyones work, some i just pick out bits which i tohught went well together. These are all on acetate, and thought they came out with some good results, which we could eventually screen print...maybe

Nibble Nibble.

Not entirely sure what the technical name for this game is, however I do know that it provided much fun as our infamous "Closing Activity".

"Sometimes I really
hate it when it rains

hard
boiled eggs are nice to nibble
nibble on my pets ear she likes it
when it rains cows sit down on the
grass is never
greener way of thinking"

"It was a dark
night owls fly over my
house is full of freaks
wearing a cardigan covered in cats
cats live in hats undet mats where
its not the way you walk bu the way you
talk to me like your my mother"

"Sometimes I am convinced that I am going insane
becuase.. I wanted to cover it in
chocolate canke is best eaten from
my frilly pink little
knickers and socks
socks with holes in thanks
tonights going to be a good night"

"I want to
eating cheese is fun
fun times in my parents jacuzzi where
my best friend has a
bellybutton hair is all curly
and we went and ate chocolate
drops of chocolate is yum"

"I went to the shop
shop at my local hardware store for
special people can touch their nose with their
tongue piercings make me
feel very upset about
all this
stuff and things dont make sense
sense of being lost in this big
lonely world"

Idea generation in progress.

Its not been a good night....

and tomorrow isn't looking too productive either....

This is the only regret/confession I can think of at the minute. That, and not starting my essay/workshop/everything else several weeks ago like a sane person would instead of running around new york.

Eating your own....

Maybe an idea of what some of our experiments from today might look like in colour or screen printed?...

Layer Tenis....
To add to an image,
we did this

digitally using an image of Adlai Stevenson the man who wrote our quote as a starting point. We then used typography- using confessions, things we wish we hadn't done/said, regrets etc etc, images, shapes, colours to create different effects. We gave each person 5 minutes to work on the piece and then swapped to another person. Here are the results

Séraphine.

So it's french film season at the cornerhouse. Currently showing; Séraphine. Provost’s absorbing cinematic portrait of artist Séraphine de Senlis won seven awards at this year’s prestigious Césars. In 1905, 41-year-old self-taught artist Séraphine is working as a housekeeper, inspired by her guardian angel she begins to produce brilliantly colourful paintings. When art critic Wilhelm Uhde discovers her secret artwork, an unexpected relationship develops and Séraphine’s work gains international attention.

Perhaps we should go on wednesday 17.35 showing for field trip?

English Oak Tree and Wheat Field

Here is a beautiful book that Phoebe found when we visited special collections the other week. English Oak Tree and Wheat Field by Robert Maude contains a series of photographs taken over the space of a year. Each photograph is labelled by each month. I thought it was a simple way of showing something changing over time. Obviously we don't have a year, but in half an hour light conditions could change or the weather. We might even get some wonderful Manchester rain and it could wash away any ink and the piece could crumble away in front of our eyes. Sorry the photographs are terrible.

Daniel Buren

Green and white paper on door
Galerie Apollinaire, Milan, 1968

French artist Daniel Buren first refusing to take part in Project 68 exhibition at Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, led to his first solo exhibition where by he covered the front door of the gallery in Milan with striped papers, making it impossible to enter. He abandoned the idea of painting and the art system, and responded to how work is transformed by its context/ surrounding space.

Obviously in the middle of writing my essay! But it just made me wonder about part two of our project of taking our layered pieces into an environment and why/ how are we going to do it? What do we think will happen? Would it change at all in a space of 30 minutes? Where could we try out and experiment this idea in different places?
Sorry there abit dodgy but these are my photographs from Hamish Muir.

Cuuuut and stiiiick!
How something can change with layers....
